Help & FAQ
Everything you need to get the most out of Bloo. Can't find your answer? Get in touch.
Getting started
Do I need an account to use Bloo?
No. You can log dives right away without signing up — everything saves locally on your phone.
Creating an account unlocks three things: automatic cloud backup, syncing across devices (iPad, second iPhone, etc.), and being able to recover your logbook if you ever lose your device. You can sign up any time from the Profile tab — we'll migrate your existing dives over.
Can I use Bloo offline?
Yes. Bloo is offline-first by design. You can log dives, add photos, view your logbook, and check the map with no signal. Everything syncs to the cloud automatically once you're back online.
How do I log my first dive?
Tap the + button in the middle of the tab bar. The wizard takes you through three steps: Where → The Dive → Capture. You can skip any field that doesn't apply — only the dive site, max depth and duration are required.
Your data
Where are my dives stored?
Two places:
- On your phone — a local database, so the app works fully offline. This is the source of truth.
- In the cloud — once you've signed up. This is what backs up your logbook and syncs it to your other devices.
If you haven't created an account yet, your dives only live on this phone. Sign up any time to back them up.
Will my dives sync across devices?
Yes, after you sign up. Sign in on your iPad or second iPhone with the same email and your full logbook will sync down.
How do I move Bloo to a new phone?
Make sure you have an account first (Profile tab → Save my dives if you're still anonymous). Install Bloo on the new phone, sign in with the same email, and everything will sync over — dives, photos, trips, the lot.
How do I export my dive log?
Profile → Export My Data. You'll get two options:
- JSON — complete GDPR-compliant data dump.
- UDDF — Universal Dive Data Format. Works with Subsurface and most other dive log apps.
Both work offline.
Can I import from another dive log app?
Yes. Bloo imports UDDF files — the standard format Subsurface, MacDive and most other dive log apps can export — complete with depth profiles and gear. Open the file with Bloo (from Files, or any share sheet) and the import flow takes it from there. Support for more dive-computer formats is on the way.
Photos & videos
How many photos can I add per dive?
- Free: 6 photos per dive, no videos.
- Pro: 50 photos + 5 videos per dive.
Why didn't my photo upload?
Photos upload in the background after you save the dive. If you're offline, they'll queue and upload the next time you're online. On a dive card you'll see a small cloud badge with the count of photos still uploading — tap it to force a retry.
If a photo's still missing after a retry, report it as a bug with the dive date and we'll look into it.
Can I add photos from my photo library?
Yes — the photo picker lets you choose from your camera roll or take a new photo. HEIC (iPhone) and JPEG are both supported.
Bloo Pro
What does Bloo Pro include?
- More media per dive: 50 photos + 5 videos (vs 6 photos free).
- Advanced stats & trends — year-by-year deep-dives, activity charts and depth histograms, with more Pro features on the way.
How much is Bloo Pro?
Bloo Pro is a yearly subscription with a 14-day free trial. The paywall in the app always shows the current price in your currency — and early adopters lock in founding-member pricing for as long as they stay subscribed.
How do I cancel my subscription?
iOS manages all subscriptions centrally:
- iPhone: Settings app → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → Bloo Pro → Cancel Subscription.
Your Pro features stay active until the end of your current billing period.
Can I restore my purchase on a new device?
Yes. After installing Bloo on the new device and signing in, the paywall has a Restore Purchases button. Apple will match your subscription to the new install automatically.
What happens to my extra photos if I cancel Pro?
Your existing photos stay accessible — we never delete anything because you downgraded. You just won't be able to add new photos beyond the 6-per-dive free limit until you resubscribe.
Trips
How do trips work?
Trips group your dives into collections — your Bali liveaboard, that Red Sea week. Create one from the Logbook's Trips segment with the + button, then add dives from the trip's detail screen.
Can I add dives to a trip later?
Yes. Open the trip → Edit → Add Dives. You can pick from any of your unassigned dives.
The map
Why are some dive sites missing from the map?
Bloo comes with thousands of known dive sites worldwide (sourced from public data). If your site isn't there, you can add it yourself — open the Log Dive wizard, tap the site picker, search for the site name, and choose Add new. It'll appear on your map immediately.
Do other users see the dive sites I add?
Sites you add are shared into the global database (minus anything personal — just name + coordinates + country). Other divers in the same area benefit from your contribution.
Your actual dive logs at those sites are completely private to you.
Account & privacy
Who can see my dives?
Only you. Bloo doesn't have a social feed. Your dives, photos, and notes are private to your account, enforced server-side.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. Photos and videos are stored in a private bucket (never public), accessed via short-lived signed URLs. All traffic is HTTPS. Your dive data is protected by row-level security — server-side access checks enforce that nobody can read your data but you.
How do I delete my account?
Profile → Delete Account. This wipes all your dives, photos, trips, and profile data, across the cloud and this device. There's a two-step confirmation because it's permanent. Full GDPR compliance — nothing recoverable afterwards.
Can I get a copy of all my data?
Yes — Profile → Export My Data → JSON gives you the complete GDPR-compliant dump.
Troubleshooting
The app says “Can't reach Bloo”
This usually means you're offline or your network can't reach our servers. Check your connection and tap Try again. If that doesn't work and you're definitely online, report it as a bug and include what you were doing when it happened.
A dive didn't save
If you saw the celebration screen, the dive is saved locally. Check the logbook — it should be there. If it synced to another device and isn't here, pull down on the logbook to refresh.
If you're sure it's missing, report it as a bug with the approximate date and site.
I found something broken
Report a bug — the form takes 30 seconds and includes the device/OS info we need to track it down.
